Michael Jackson, still able to blow Lenny Kravitz away

Yet another Michael Jackson song has leaked from the late singer’s huge back catalog of songs. A 90 second snippet of” Another Day” leaked onto Youtube last night, via fan site MJ Star.

The song is said to be a version of Lenny Kravitz’s 2004 single “Storm”, which featured Jay-Z. Beyond the lyrics, however, you wouldn’t know they are the ’same’ song, and whilst Kravitz is credited, his vocals are not heard in the snippet.

Unlike the underwhelming “This Is It”, “Another Day” is a real stormer of a track. The production stands up to modern standards, and has MJ at his raging best: “You’re the one that makes me strong/ I can’t wait for another day/ You’re the fire that keeps me warm/ I can’t wait for another day.”

The song may have been recorded around 2004, when Kravitz’ album Baptism was released. Kravitz wrote to Spinner following the singer’s death in 2009: “I got to work with Michael on a track that has not been released and it was the most amazing experience I’ve had in the studio. He was funny. Very funny and we laughed the whole time.” Whether the song was “Another Day” remains to be seen.

Whilst it’s nice to see some new material, we can only hope that Jackson’s estate stems the flow of leaked tracks and picks the best of the bunch for the inevitable cash-in albums.
