James Cameron is fishing for an underwater Avatar sequel

It was recently announced that director James Cameron has two Avatar sequels in the works. Even as the film’s extended re-release heads out to theaters, James spoke to MTV about a likely setting for the first of the sequels.
An expert in underwater filming, you’ll remember little flick called Titanic, James knows just what it takes to successfully shoot copious amounts of marine footage. It thus comes as no surprise that he wants to dive into Pandora’s oceans for Avatar 2.0.
I think what we should do there is — because we’ll have to have characters that are in and under the water — is that we should actually capture them underwater.
This will be an all new adventure for Hollywood. We’ve seen underwater filming. We’ve seen amazing motion capture. But, underwater motion capture? That is assuming the aquatic life on Pandora is even human-like enough to use an actor as the base. It could be that they are nearly 100% computer generated, which would be leap from James’ usual style. So I’m thinking we’ll be seeing something more along the lines of Na’vi with gills.
Related note – In addition to the extra 9 minutes being added to the theatrical re-release, the Avatar Special Edition DVD will have nearly 16 additional minutes!
