Eagles place exclusive-rights franchise tag on Michael Vick

The Philadelphia Eagles would like to sign Michael Vick to a long-term contract. For now, they will take it a year at a time. The team confirmed Tuesday that it has placed the exclusive-rights franchise tag on Vick, the Associated Press' 2010 Comeback Player of the Year. He will be paid roughly $16 million with the franchise tag, according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora. That number is an average of the five highest-paid NFL quarterbacks. The exclusive-rights stipulation prevents other teams from attempting to sign Vick to an offer sheet. Vick is the first player given the exclusive tag this season. In 2010, his first season as a starting quarterback in four years, Vick set career-highs with a 62.6 completion percentage and 30 total touchdowns despite playing in just 12 games.
