This Prayer Breakfast Speech Upstaged Barack Obama & Went Viral

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson
At Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, stepped up prior to Barack Obama’s speech and said what many of us want to say on the national stage and he did so with Obama sitting less than ten feet from him. He blasted “political correctness,” calling it a “dangerous” threat to free speech and the video has gone viral throughout the internet.

In demonstrating his disdain for politically correct speech, Carson said, “We’ve reached a point where people are actually afraid to talk about what they want to say, because somebody might be offended,” noting the example of people refraining from saying “Merry Christmas.”

“We’ve got to get over this sensitivity and it keeps people from saying what they really believe.”
He then encouraged ongoing discussions about societal issues and how education is essential in these matters.
Carson even told his own story of how he rose from poverty to success, sharing intimate details about himself, his parents and his life early on. He even demonstrated what individuals can do to demonstrate true charity to others as helping students who are seeking to advance in the academic world through his Carson Scholars Fund.

Like Henson Ong, before a group on gun violence in Connecticut, Carson also spoke about moral decay in America. He also tied it with fiscal irresponsibility and said they would both have dire consequences.

“I think particularly about ancient Rome. Very powerful — nobody could even challenge them militarily…they destroyed themselves from within,” Carson said. “Moral decay. Fiscal irresponsibility.”

Though he was serious about where we are, he also projected a positive attitude at correcting the problems.

“And one of our big problems right now…our deficit is a big problem,” he said. ”Think about it — and our national debt — $16 and a half trillion dollars.”

He then illustrated for the audience just what that would look like. We’ve done that here as well, for visual aid.

He then spoke about taxation and his statements were in direct opposition to Obama’s plans.
“What about our taxation system — so complex there is no one that can possibly comply with every jot and tittle,” he said. ”When I pick up my Bible, you know what I see — I see the fairest individual in the universe — God — and he’s given us a system. It’s called tithe.”
He used this to promote the idea of a flat tax, which I’m all in favor of.

He also took time to speak about health care, which obviously was in direct opposition to Obamacare as he blasted the notion of sending money to the large Federal bureaucratic monster. He advocated for health savings accounts, which I also support.

I thank God for Dr. Carson’s courage and communication skills, especially when it would be so easy to cave on the national stage. This is definitely a one of a kind speech and though Barack Obama was sitting right there and appearing to listen intently, I’m curious if he actually heard a word that was said or if he even cared. I know it has been my prayer that God would turn the heart of Barack Obama and those in Congress in repentance from their sinful policies and that He would give them wisdom regarding how to govern properly. May He so grant it.
