New START: Increasing the Risk of Nuclear War

According to the translation of an article appearing in the Russian newspaper Suvorovskiy Natisk on July 17, the Vostok 2010 Russian military exercise concluded with a simulated a low-yield nuclear strike. This simulated strike is consistent with the Russian policy of considering the use of non-strategic (tactical) nuclear weapons in regional conflicts where up to that point only conventional weapons would be used.

As the United States Senate is in the midst of considering the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) arms control agreement with Russia, the Senate should understand the important linkage between the Vostok exercise and New START in the minds of the Russian leadership. According to unclassified sources, the Russians have a many-fold advantage in tactical nuclear weapons over the U.S. The Russian government wants to use this advantage to intimidate its neighbors in Eastern Europe, including those that are NATO allies of the U.S. Specifically, Moscow sees this as forcing the U.S. to recognize Russia’s exclusive sphere of influence in this region and to weaken its security commitments to its allies.

The problem for the U.S. is that the Russian position seeks to undermine the U.S. policy of extended deterrence in the European theater. This is where Senate consideration of New START comes into play. The Russian position can succeed only if Russia can maintain parity with the U.S. in the area of strategic nuclear arms and curtail the U.S. missile defense program. New START codifies both of these outcomes in favor of Russia. Regarding offensive strategic nuclear weapons, New START will reduce the U.S. force down to levels that are consistent with Russian capacity. Regarding missile defense, Russia was successful in getting language in the preamble of New START that commits the U.S. government not to develop or deploy missile defense capabilities that Russia finds objectionable. The Russian government, in order to strengthen the commitment regarding missile defense, has issued a unilateral statement that informs the U.S. that it will withdraw from New START if the U.S. does not limit its missile defense program in accordance with Russia’s views. The Obama Administration, for its part, has told the Russians that it has no intention of pursuing missile defense capabilities that Russia will find objectionable.

As a result, New START serves to weaken the U.S.-led alliance structure. In turn, this raises the risk of Russian military intervention in what Russia chauvinistically calls its “near abroad.” Such aggression has already taken place against the Republic of Georgia. Finally, this overall strategic imbalance, as demonstrated by the Vostok exercise, increases the risk of the use of nuclear weapons in a conflict. The Senate needs to ask itself whether these are desirable outcomes as it considers granting its consent to the ratification of New START.

NY Governor Stands Up for the Fallen: Paterson Suggests Alternative Site For Controversial Ground Zero Mega Mosque

Finally, a politician in office has the stones to stand for what's right. He may be blind, but he's the only one who sees.
Paterson Suggests Alternative Site For Controversial Mosque By: NY1 News

By: NY1 News

Governor David Paterson says he understands why some people are objecting to plans for amosque near the World Trade Center side and is offering an alternative to the developers.

Paterson says he has no objections to the controversial mosque and Islamic community center planned at 45 Park Place, he's also volunteering another site on state-owned property for it to be built.

Paterson would not specify where that site would be, but said there needs to be greater dialogue to try and allay everyone's fears.

"I don't have any objection to it being built there, but I'm very sensitive to the desire of those who are adamant against it to see something else worked out,” said the governor. “And frankly, if the sponsors who are looking for property anywhere at a distance that would beseech that, it would accommodate a better feeling among the people who are frustrated, I would look into trying to provide them with the state property they would need."

One prominent mosque supporter rejected the governor's trial balloon, saying Paterson's remarks validate the idea that all Muslims are responsible for what terrorists did on September 11th.

Ben Quayle ad calls Obama worst president

By Tim Nudd on Wed Aug 11 2010
Ben-quayle
While not on the level of John Oxendine's ox-vs.-rat spot or Carly Fiorina's demon-sheep spot, this new campaign ad from Ben Quayle (son of former vice president Dan)is pretty over the top. Quayle, 33, who's running as a Republican inArizona's 3rd Congressional district, opens with the blunt assertionthat "Barack Obama is the worst president in history," no doubtoffending Warren G. Harding scholars everywhere. Then Quayle getsreally ornery, suggesting that "someone needs to go to Washington andknock the hell out of the place." He then stalks off camera, perhaps todo just that. Ben seems like an angry dude. Perhaps it's for the bestthat he doesn't have children.

Kagan: A lost opportunity to debate federal government powers

By Rick Manning
Congressman Pete Stark went from obscure, cranky socialist who even the Democrats thought was too nuts to entrust to the Ways and Means Committee Chairmanship to Internet sensation over the past couple of weeks.
Did he do a funny dance at a wedding?

Maybe he led Congress in one of those frozen mob scenes that get hundreds of thousands of YouTube views?
Was he guilty of “Rick Rolling” Al Franken?

No, Pete Stark told the truth to a town hall audience about how he and his Democratic colleagues view federal government power when he said that the “federal government can do almost anything.”
The battle for the heart and soul of America is being played out in debates at tea party rallies and Congressional town hall meetings about the extent of federal authority all across the nation.

States Should Reject $26.1 Billion Bailout By Robert Romano States should say, “thanks, but no thanks” to Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Bar

By Bill Wilson

Webster’s dictionary defines lame duck as, “an elected official still in office but not slated to continue.”

Most Americans define a lame duck Congress as the guys they just booted out and don’t want them doing any more damage.
Obama’s White House defines lame duck as the opportunity to passlegislation that is so outrageous that not even the Pelosi-ReidCongress would vote in favor of it before the November election.

The lame duck Congress of 2010 contains the hopes and dreams ofradical environmentalists and Big Labor as both hope to pass majorpieces of legislation after the November elections that couldpermanently alter the economic landscape of the United States.

Big Labor is looking for their holy grail — card check legislation, which would eliminate the nasty inconvenience of having to submit thequestion of whether a company should be unionized to a secret ballotelection of those who would be their members. You see, when the actualworkers get to vote in secret, sometimes they actually vote againstjoining the collective.

Even with 59 Democrats in the Senate, Senate Majority Leader HarryReid has disappointed his most ardent supporters by failing to deliverlegislation that fundamentally shifts the balance of power in labororganizing toward the coercive influence of the potential shop steward. It seems that Big Labor and Harry Reid have a problem, the voters don’twant the card check legislation to pass in such sufficient numbers thatSenate Democrats cannot overcome a filibuster against the bill.

So, the answer is lame duck it.

Ex-White House Social Secretary To Head Up Ebony And JET

Posted by Media Outrage
Ex-White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers (on the left Linda Johnson Rice on the right) has been tapped by Johnson Publishing to head up Ebony & JET magazines.  Bravo.  More details…
DesirĂ©e Rogers, who left her job as White House social secretary earlier this year after two fame-seeking party crashers made their way into a presidential gala, has been named chief executive of the world’s largest black-owned publishing company.

Johnson Publishing Company, which puts out Jet and Ebony magazines, announced on Tuesday that Ms. Rogers would work alongside the company chairwoman, Linda Johnson Rice, whose father founded the company in 1945. Ms. Rogers will run day-to-day operations, the company, which is based in Chicago, said in a statement.

Ms. Rogers will assume leadership of the company at a time when Ebony and Jet — both trend-setters and industry leaders among publications written for black audiences — have experienced sharp declines in circulation and sales at the newsstand.

In its statement, Johnson said Ms. Rogers was chosen because the company believed she was best suited to strengthen the Johnson brands.

“Rogers is expert in repositioning brands, utilizing their core essence to engage customers and extending them into the communities they serve,” the company said.

As White House social secretary, Ms. Rogers broke ground and ruffled feathers. She was the first black person to hold the position. And she broke sharply with Washington protocol by leaving some of the city’s upper crust — who were not used to being excluded from White House gatherings — off her guest lists.
Recalling her short but stormy tenure, she told The New York Times after resigning in February, ”I was symbolic of that change in many respects, and I took the hit.”

Ms. Rogers had the job of coordinating the White House’s packed schedule of social gatherings, which included everything from bill signings to state dinners. But she stumbled in handling President Obama’s first state dinner. Two uninvited guests, both aspiring reality television stars, made their way past Secret Service and far enough into the party that they were able to meet the president.

The entire episode effectively ended Ms. Rogers’s career but gave birth to the television careers of the intruding couple, who are currently appearing on the Bravo show “Real Housewives of DC.”

Now it would appear Ms. Rogers’s fortunes have come full circle. In a statement, she said, “I am humbled to have such an incredible opportunity.”

UK doctors: New superbug gene could spread widely

LONDON — British scientists have found a new gene that allows any bacteria to become a superbug, and are warning that it is widespread in India and could soon appear worldwide.

The gene, which can be swapped between different bacteria to make them resistant to most drugs, has so far been identified in 37 people who returned to the U.K. after undergoing surgery in India or Pakistan.

The resistant gene has also been detected in Australia, Canada, the U.S., the Netherlands and Sweden. The researchers say since many Americans and Europeans travel to India and Pakistan for elective procedures like cosmetic surgery, it was likely the superbug gene would spread worldwide.

In an article published online Wednesday in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases, doctors reported finding a new gene, called NDM-1. The gene alters bacteria, making them resistant to nearly all known antibiotics. It has been seen largely in E. coli bacteria, the most common cause of urinary tract infections, and on DNA structures that can be easily copied and passed onto other types of bacteria.

The researchers said the superbug gene appeared to be already circulating widely in India, where the health system is much less likely to identify its presence or have adequate antibiotics to treat patients.

"The potential of NDM-1 to be a worldwide public health problem is great, and coordinated international surveillance is needed," the authors wrote.

'Afghanistan to Expel US Security Firms'

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is set to call on Washington and its allies to shut down their private security companies in the violence-stricken country.

President Karzai will announce the details of his demand late Saturday during a press conference in Kabul, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Informed sources in the presidential office said the Afghan leader was set to impose a ban on Western-backed security firms and announce his new policy on the fight against corruption.

President Karzai had earlier accused foreign security contractors in the country of operating as militias, saying that these firms are only worsening the security situation in Afghanistan.'

Colombia and Venezuela Restores Diplomatic Relations

Colombia and Venezuela restore ties

Chavez and Santos agreed to restore diplomatic ties between their two countries

The presidents of Colombia and Venezuela have agreed to restore diplomatic ties after a dispute over allegations that Caracas shelters Colombian leftist rebels.

Presidents Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia and Hugo Chaves of Venezuela agreed to "relaunch bilateral relations and re-establish diplomatic ties between the two countries based on transparent and direct dialogue," a joint statement issued after Tuesday's meeting said.

The two leaders expressed optimism that their first meeting would produce positive results.

Santos said he also received assurances from Chavez that the Venezuelan leader would not allow guerrilla groups to set up camp inside his borders.

Chavez severed diplomatic relations with Colombia on July 22 after the government of Alvaro Uribe, Santos' predecessor, publicly presented photos, videos and maps of what it said were camps inside Venezuela that belonged to the Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (Farc) rebel group.

Chavez accused Uribe of lying and trying to stir up a conflict in his final days in office.

Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo, reporting from Santa Marta said that the topic Venezuelan support for the Farc was not discussed.

"It is a very sensitive topic at this point in time, and this meeting was mainly a common pledge to restore diplomatic relation between the countries."

Trade between the neighbouring countries had already fallen dramatically in the past year as relations deteriorated.

Tense relations

Relations between Colombia and Venezuela already suffered in July 2009, when Chavez froze ties after Bogota agreed to give the United States access to seven military bases to fight cocaine production and trafficking.

Colombian foreign minister Maria Angela Holguin said the leaders were likely to discuss the bases, but that the sensitive issue of the alleged presence of the Farc leadership on Venezuelan soil was unlikely to arise yet.

More immediate concerns of the return of ambassadors and the reopening pf borders to bilateral trade were expected to be the main focus.

Trade between the South American neighbours - $6bn in 2008 - fell precipitously during the dispute, hurting economies on both sides of their 2,000km border.

Former CIA Officers Warn Obama on Possible Israeli Attack on Iran

Cuban News Agency

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 10 (ACN) A group of high level former CIA officers recently warned American President Barack Obama that Israel may plan to attack Iran as soon as this month.

By NĂ©stor NĂºĂ±ez

In a memorandum addressed to Obama, members of the Veteran Professionals for Sanity (VPS) suggested the president to denounce publicly the attack and thus to avoid a war of unforeseeable consequences, according to Uruguayan newspaper La Republica.

JG: [Read the original article in Spanish.]

The memorandum says Netanyahu is planning a surprise attack to force the United States to provide full support to its military campaign.

The warning is based on comments made by the current Zionist prime minister who noted that the US won’t get in their way and that his country counts on the support of eighty percent of Americans.

Israeli military authorities said they are analyzing a possible attack on Iran and that US and Israel’s war vessels, carrying nuclear weapons, are heading to the area.

The former CIA officers highlight they hope advisers have told Obama that Israel's primary concern is a regime change not Iranian nuclear weapons.

The document explains that Israel will likely trigger the attack before conversations between Iran and the international community resume in September, as scheduled.

Such conversations would likely lead to an agreement that would send a large portion of Iran's enriched uranium abroad and the Israeli government, which considers such conversations as a “trick”, would try to prevent that from happening since it would greatly weaken its scariest rationale for an attack on Iran, the memo explains.

As the Cuban leader Fidel Castro has repeatedly warned, the US former CIA officers point out the danger an Israel-US attack on Iran represents.

In a recent interview with four Venezuelan journalists, Fidel Castro stressed that Israel is the only country that wouldn’t try to persuade Obama from holding the war.

The memorandum was signed by former CIA officers Phil Giraldi and Larry Johnson, and by Special Forces and Defense Intelligence Agency Colonel W. Patrick Lang; US Army Intelligence and CIA officer Ray McGovern; FBI officer Coleen Rowley; US Army Reserve and State Department Foreign Office’s Ann Wright.

The document also describes actions that President Obama could take to prevent a war.

----------

JG: Israel, governed by racist Zionists, and the United States, governed by greedy capitalists who have privatized the waging of war, are today the two biggest obstacles to world peace.

If Barack Obama runs the U.S., how come that his executive order to close the concentration camp prison in Guantanamo remains unfulfilled? He is in way over his head. He is steadily conducting the U.S. to a war against Iran, which will be started by the racist Zionists.

Landslide in Gansu province kills 137 people, 1,348 still missing

As if the floods weren't enough, this year's torrential rains have caused the worst incident of landslides this year to happen in Gansu province. Official estimates released this morning put the death toll of the slides at 137, with 1,348 people still missing.
According to experts, the landslide, which occured in Zhouqu County early Sunday morning, had four causes. Zhouqu County's rock was already soft and easily broken, but with the impact of the Wenchuan earthquake and the ongoing drought starting from last year, the geology of the area was already incredibly prone to being swept away. That happened on Saturday night, when rainfall reached over 90mm and lasted for 40 minutes.
As a result, roughly 1.8 million cubic meters of mud and debris flattened three villages in the area. In the worst hit, not a single structure was left intact.
Premier Wen Jiabao was at the site by the evening to urge an "all-out" effort to rescue survivors and restore electricity and traffic to the area, but hopes are fading for the 1300 or so still not found.
The chances seem especially harsh since excavators can't reach the site through all the mud, according to police officers in the area.

"Since excavators can't reach the site, we can only use spades and our hands to rescue the buried," He Youxin, an officer with the Gannan branch of the Gansu Headquarters of Chinese People's Armed Police Force, told the news agency.
His rescue team has saved 23 people and recovered 15 bodies, he said. But, "It's very hard to locate the people washed away by floods. It's hard to say what their chances of survival are," he said.
In order to prevent more floods, troops have begun blasting through the landslide's rubble that formed an impromptu dam blocking the Bailong river. Thousands of people, mostly Tibetans, living downstream from the blockage were also evacuated.
As for relief, China's Red Cross Society said it had already donated 3.5 million RMB in funds and goods to Zhouqu, and will be giving another 1 million RMB for emergency supplies like food and drinking water. Meanwhile, Dalian Wanda Group had donated 10 million RMB and the Communist Youth Leage had pooled 5 million in funds. If you feel like donating, banking information is available on the China Red Cross site.

The Boston Celtics formally introduced Shaquille O’Neal as the newest member of the team after signing the 7′1″ big man to a two-year deal worth about $3 million last week. Shaq will be joining his sixth team since coming into the league via the 1992 draft.
The clock is ticking. You have between now and the beginning of the seasons to figure out what his new nickname should be, I submit “The Big Eco-Diesel”. What say you?

Former Panthers LB Mark Fields Accused of Choking the Mother of His 6 Year Child Written by: Robert Littal

If you recall Mark Fields was an undersized middle linebacker for the Carolina Panthers for many years.
He was one of those type of players who was told he would never be big enough to succeed in the NFL, but overcame those long odds.
He has been retired for a few years and basically fell off the map until today.
TMZ.com has learned Fields was arrested for alledgely choking and beating the mother of his 6 year daughter outside of a daycare facility.  Here are the details:
According to police docs — obtained by TMZ — witnesses say Mark confronted his ex outside a childcare facility near Phoenix, Arizona … where he allegedly proceeded to beat her, put her in a chokehold, throw her on the ground, and then threaten to kill her.
Cops claim both Mark’s baby mama and young daughter were seen by paramedics for mild injuries.
According to the docs, Mark’s ex claims she was dropping off court-ordered paperwork when Mark showed up and went ballistic. Mark — who was allegedly violating an order of protection by showing up — told cops his ex-GF had tried to take his daughter from his arms.
The former linebacker is charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct, and interfering with an educational institution. He was released from jail yesterday.
As I have pointed out many times you never who these guys really are off the field.
Fields in his playing days was heralded as one of the good guys and pillars of the community.
Which could be true, but obviously there is a bit of a dark side to him as well if the mother of his child felt the need to have a protection order against him.
If these charges are proven to be true he needs to be in jail with the rest of the men who believe they need to use force to get a woman to do what they want.

Newt Gingrich’s Second Wife Tells All

by sarabethDid you know that that a plausible case can be made that, as of last night, Newt Gingrich was the front-runner in the Republican 2012 presidential race?
As 2012 approaches, he has raised as much money as all of his potential rivals combined and sits atop the polls for the Republican presidential nomination.
If Gingrich, who appears to have been not distinguishably different from a repulsive creep for most of his adult life, was serious about his presidential ambitions, he should have first made his peace with his second wife, Marianne.
That’s the one whom he had already proposed to before he was divorced from his first wife. The one to whom he confessed, in 1999, soon after Marianne had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, that he was having an affair with a woman who was in Marianne’s apartment “eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed.” Confessed to the affair, said it was going to continue, and asked Marianne to “tolerate” it.
(His first wife, Jackie was the one whom he asked for a divorce while she was in the hospital recuperating from cancer surgery. Jackie, by the way, was his former high school geometry teacher, and he married her when he was 19 and she was 26, but let’s not go there.)
In case, you were wondering, yes, this is the very same Newt Gingrich who liked to go around piously making statements like:
The Democratic Party has been the active instrument of breaking down traditional marriage.
But back to Marianne. Yes, Newt really should have made his peace with her before he got too heavily invested in his 2012 presidential bid. “Back in the 1990s, she told a reporter she could end her husband’s career with a single interview.” And she now seems to have given that interview. To Esquire, who published it this morning.
It’s a long, long article. Some quick excerpts from page 1:
She was married to Newt Gingrich for eighteen years, all through his spectacular rise and fall … This is the first time she’s talked about what happened, and she has a case of the nerves but also an air of liberation about her. … You might be inclined to think of what she says as the lament of an abandoned wife, but that would be a mistake. There is shockingly little bitterness in her, and she often speaks with great kindness of her former husband.
[...]
She says she should have seen the red flags. “He asked me to marry him way too early. And he wasn’t divorced yet. I should have known there was a problem.”
Within weeks or months?
“Within weeks.”
[...]
And he did the same thing to her eighteen years later, with Callista Bisek, the young congressional aide who became his third wife. “I know. I asked him. He’d already asked her to marry him before he asked me for a divorce. Before he even asked.”
He told you that?
“Yeah, he wanted to — “
And here’s what most people are going to regard as the juicy part, the part that Newt will be dodging questions about for a good long while (all the way at the end, on page 8):
But Marianne was having problems of her own. After going to the doctor for a mysterious tingling in her hand, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Early in May, she went out to Ohio for her mother’s birthday. A day and a half went by and Newt didn’t return her calls, which was strange. They always talked every day, often ten times a day, so she was frantic by the time he called to say he needed to talk to her.
“About what?”
He wanted to talk in person, he said.
“I said, ‘No, we need to talk now.’ ”
He went quiet.
“There’s somebody else, isn’t there?”
She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in her apartment, eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed?
She called a minister they both trusted. He came over to the house the next day and worked with them the whole weekend, but Gingrich just kept saying she was a Jaguar and all he wanted was a Chevrolet. ” ‘I can’t handle a Jaguar right now.’ He said that many times. ‘All I want is a Chevrolet.’ ”
He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused.
He’d just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where he’d given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values.
The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, “How do you give that speech and do what you’re doing?”
“It doesn’t matter what I do,” he answered. “People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.”

CHALLENGED!! IT’S UN-AMERICAN

CHALLENGED!!

IT’S UN-AMERICAN

Wilkes-Barre, PA— The two behemoths of corruption known as the Democrat and Republican Parties have, once again, challenged the petitions of all statewide third party candidates in Pennsylvania. What has now become normal modis operandi by these parties of chicanery and deception to insure only they can compete in the arena of ideas must not be tolerated any longer and will not be without a fight. “Keeping candidates off the ballot is as bad, if not worse, than denying one the right to vote,” said Lou Jasikoff, Chair for the Northeast Pennsylvania Libertarian Party.

Jasikoff added “currently we have men and women dying in Iraq and Afghanistan to ensure free and open elections there and yet both the Democrat and Republican parties found it necessary – even in light of ‘bonusgate’ – to choke off access to the ballot and to give citizens less choice.”

“Joe Sestak himself filed to keep the Green Party off the ballot as its petitions were most susceptible to challenge. Is the new game plan of the Democrat Party to attack those it views as most vulnerable? And let’s not forget the Republican operatives in this endeavor challenging the Tea Party and Libertarian candidates.”

Jasikoff concluded “the wretched place that both the Republican and Democrat parties -- and only the Republican and Democrat parties -- have brought this nation must be addressed now. The endless wars, a broken economy, a failing education system and never ending corruption plus cronyism are the direct results of their policies. The system can only be fixed when new ideas and competition are allowed into the political arena. It will never get fixed by limiting voter choice, squashing voices and keeping qualified candidates off the ballot. It is unacceptable and it is Un-American.”

Leggy Julia Roberts and Newlywed Javier Bardem Bring Eat Pray Love to NYC!

Julia Roberts let her stems get all the attention in shorts and a tuxedo jacket at last night's NYC premiere of Eat Pray Love. Of course that famous smile played a big part too, and she flashed her grin and cuddled close to her leading man Javier Bardem. He looked dapper in blue, though there was no wedding ring adorning his finger. Julia's husband Danny Moder stayed off the red carpet as usual while Javier's new wife Penelope Cruz is busy filming Pirates in Hawaii. James Franco also missed the screening since he's shooting a movie in Vancouver. Director Ryan Murphy has been making the press rounds for the movie, including an interview earlier in the day where he talked about his other big project, Glee, revealing that Britney Spears will be making a cameo on her episode. Ryan also raised a few eyebrows discussing the movie's "controversial" pasta scenes and in case you missed it, read more from Julia and Javier about their highly anticipated project before it hits theaters on Friday.

Ex-WWE Wrestling Exec Linda McMahon wins GOP Battle Royal Senate Primary in Connecticut

Linda McMahon, the former WWE CEO has won the Republican “Battle Royal” US Senate primary over GOP opponents Rob Simmons and Peter Schiff.  With 58 percent of the vote in, AP shows McMahon with 19-point lead over former Congressman Rob Simmons and projects Linda McMahon the winner. McMahon easily outdistanced her opponents 49% to Simmons’ 28% and and Schiff’s 23%.
Former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon won an encore smackdown over Republican opponents Rob Simmons and Peter Schiff to become the GOP Senate nominee in Connecticut.
At a GOP convention in May, McMahon beat out Simmons, a veteran of the Vietnam War, the CIA and Congress, as well as Schiff, a financier. But the two losing candidates gathered signatures to qualify for the primary ballot. Simmons at one point put his campaign on ice, then reignited it in time for the election. He won the endorsements of a number of newspapers, including the Hartford Courant. The newspaper said Simmons’ “impressive resume” outweighed his “strange campaign.”
All of the Connecticut - Summary Vote Results can be found HERE.
Linda McMahon  will now take on Democrat Richard Blumenthal in the November midterm elections for the Senate seat vacated by Chris Dodd, who was losing badly in polling prior to his exit. In the latest Rasmussen poll prior to the primary, Blumenthal was leading McMahon by 13%. Since Dodd decided to call it quits knowing that due to his Countrywide scandals he would lose the race, the CT Senate seat has pretty much become a solid Democrat hold with Blumenthal. I guess the Nutmeg state does not care whether their candidate openly lies about his military service. One would think that in the present political climate and the low approval ratings of Congress that “We the People” would want truthful politicians. Then again, maybe not.
It’s pretty bad when even VP Joe Biden uses you as a gaffe punch line. The Connecticut voters have 84 days to figure out whether “a few misplaced words” are emblematic of what the future has to offer with Democrat Richard Blumenthal.
Just when you thought that the Connecticut US Senate race was a done deal for Democrats … along comes the truth about AG Richard Blumenthal’s actual service in Vietnam and the lies he perpetrated … the truth is, there was no service in Vietnam.
Actually candidate Blumenthal what is unforgivable is lying about being in Vietnam when you knowing received and went out of your way to get 5 deferments to make sure you never were sent to Vietnam.
UPDATE I: Democrat Dannel Malloy Wins Primary; Ned Lamont Makes Concession Speech.
Isn’t this fascinating, Malloy comes out of no where to defeat Ned Lamont in the Democrat primary for CT governor.

Rep: Fantasia Was 'Totally Overwhelmed' by Married Woman's Accusations

  Getty Images

Fantasia Barrino's manager is speaking out about the former "American Idol" champ's apparent mental state prior to her hospitalization in North Carolina on Monday night.

Referring to Paula Cook's legal complaint against her estranged husband Antwaun Cook, in which Mrs. Cook accuses Barrino of ruining the marriage by having an affair Mr. Cook, Barrino's manager Brian Dickens says: "Fantasia read Mrs. Cook's complaint against Mr. Cook for the first time yesterday. She knows some of the allegations in Mrs. Cook's complaint are totally false. There are others she strongly doubts. There is plenty she does not know.

"Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused. Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention," Dickens says.

On Monday evening, the 26-year-old singer was hospitalized after taking an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid, Dickens says. "Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time," he says, adding that Barrino is in stable condition and will be released from the hospital soon.

Dickens says that Barrino and Mr. Cook "dated on and off for about eleven months." He says Barrino "believed Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She believed him when he told her he and Mrs. Cook separated in the late summer of 2009."

UPDATE: SEN. TED STEVENS DEAD Former Sen. Ted Stevens Missing And Feared Dead In Alaska Plane Crash

UPDATE: CNN confirms that Sen. Ted Stevens was killed.

Former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens is feared to be among eight missing persons aboard a plane that went down near Dillingham, Alaska last night. Severe weather is restricting the search for survivors.
The Alaska Air National Guard was called to the area about 20 miles north of Dillingham at about 7 p.m. after a passing aircraft saw the wreckage, spokesman Maj. Guy Hayes said. Eight people were reported to be on board the aircraft, though their status wasn't immediately known, he said. There were possible fatalities, he said. National Transportation Safety Board reported that it will send a "Go Team" from Washington, D.C., to Dillingham to investigate the crash. The teams can consist of up to a dozen or more specialists from the board's headquarters staff and are responsible for investigating major cases -- they are the arm that responds to "catastrophic airline crash sites" -- for the board, according to the NTSB.
Steven lost his seat in 2008 days after being convicted for failing to report gifts from supporters.
