Term Limits—Not Totalitarianism

By Howard Rich

North Carolina Gov. Bev Perdue’s recent suggestion that federal elections should be suspended until after the economy improves is a testament to political tone-deafness. Self-serving career politicians in Washington, D.C. are directly responsible for our nation’s ongoing economic malaise — and the last thing we need to do right now is reward them for refusing to clean up their own mess.

Also, Perdue’s statement blindly assumes that the American economy is going to get better in the not-too-distant future — a dubious assumption under the best of circumstances, but a guaranteed loser if our current crop of “leaders” is permitted to keep pursuing its failed policy of neo-Keynesian interventionism.

No wonder Perdue and her staff have been furiously backpedaling — attempting to pass off her remark as “hyperbole” or “sarcasm.”

Audio recordings make plain that Perdue wasn’t joking, though. And believe it or not, there is actually a kernel of truth buried deep within this otherwise ludicrous assertion.

“Our political system would function better if politicians weren’t constantly positioning themselves for re-election,” writes Peter Tucci, an editor at The Daily Caller. “This permanent campaigning prevents politicians — especially House members, who are always within two years of an election — from reaching compromises or embracing unpopular but necessary measures.”

Tucci’s prescription for ending this dysfunction? Not totalitarianism — but term limits.

Senate contemplates taking first step to start a trade war with China

By Adam Bitely
Some Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have found something they can agree on. And that is rattling sabers to start a trade war with China.

S. 1619, the Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act, is aimed to hit the Senate floor today. The legislation would seek to punish China and other economies that manipulate their currency by placing tariffs on their goods.

While the intended effect will be to punish foreign governments that implement inflationary policies that are designed to reduce the cost of their exports — strange thing to object to since the U.S. government is guilty of doing this as well — the outcome of punishing foreign economies for following the lead of the U.S. will only result in harm for the U.S. economy and U.S. consumers.

The Club for Growth has “key voted” this legislation, urging politicians to vote “no” stating that, “This proposal would make it easier for the government to slap punitive tariffs on ‘nonmarket’ economies - in particular China - if an exporting country's currency is considered misaligned against the U.S. dollar. This is a disastrous proposal that would increase taxes on American consumers, stall the economic recovery, and spark an ugly trade war that would benefit no one.”

When the tariff is imposed against a foreign economy, the result will be that prices on goods will rise in the nation imposing the tariff. Simply put, if Congress approves this legislation, and the President signs it, the U.S. would be legislating that they will harm their own consumers because China harmed Chinese consumers by devaluing their own currency.
Sounds absurd, right?

The Chicago Way: Part I

Report compiled by Brad Tidwell

Despite Rahm Emanuel’s departure from the White House, the coercive, dominating style of the Chicago Way is still infiltrating Barack Obama’s presidency.

Americans for Limited Government (ALG) put together a report highlighting examples of the president and his team’s most egregious actions.

AttackWatch.com

Recently, the Obama campaign set up the AttackWatch.com website. Essentially, this is a replay of the earlier Obama Administration project to have supporters inform the White House of attacks on Obama. That effort quickly failed amidst a firestorm of controversy. Of course, critics are ridiculing the new snitch website.

Solyndra

In 2008, George Kaiser raised tens of thousands of dollars for Obama. Kaiser’s family foundation invested in Solyndra, a company that manufactured solar panels. Solyndra’s board members and executives also gave generously to Obama. After Obama’s Inauguration, Kaiser became a frequent White House visitor. Although Solyndra’s application was rejected by the Bush Administration, the Obama Administration gave over $500 million in loan guarantees to Solyndra as part of the “stimulus.” Emails have emerged revealing the White House pressured bureaucrats to decide quickly on the loan.

Harvey rips West, Smiley

Tavis Smiley and Steve Harvey with Cornel West
COMEDIAN STEVE HARVEY HAMMERS DR. CORNEL WEST AND TAVIS SMILEY. By Wayne Hodges

NEW YORK – Like Marvin Gaye once sang: “What’s Going On?” In what has dissolved into a malicious war of dissenting words, comedian Steve Harvey has decided to join the political fisticuffs in defense of President Barack Obama. This week, during his nationally-syndicated radio show, Harvey blasted radical Democrats Dr. Cornel West and Tavis Smiley before calling each an ‘Uncle Tom.’

Harvey was especially peeved at Dr. West’s disappointment for not receiving an invitation to Obama’s inauguration. “I was a huge fan of Cornel West,” said Harvey to his fans over the air. “Have you ever been invited to the damn inauguration?  Did Bush send for you? Did Clinton send for you? Did Reagan send for you?”

Harvey continued, “Tavis, I seen him coming a mile away. His anger started when he had a town hall meeting, President Obama couldn’t come because of the campaign trail and he sent Mrs. Obama. He has held that grudge every since.”

Harvey also questioned the intent behind Dr. West and Smiley’s poverty bus tour aimed at bringing awareness to rising black unemployment. “You don’t have any real basis behind your dislike for this man…you keep masking it saying it’s not about hate. Then what is it about? Poverty existed before January 20, 2008. Where was your damn bus then?”
Oh, Harvey’s not finished.

In expressing his displeasure for Smiley’s request for a three day, sit-down meeting with Obama, Harvey said: “Who in the hell got 2-3 days for your ass? I ain’t got time to sit down with your monkey behind for two, three days, let alone the President of the United States. We got three wars going on, the economy crashing and we going to sit down with Tavis ass for three days?”
Harvey also labeled the duo “poverty pimps” as an insinuation that funding for the poverty bus tour was taken out the pockets of impoverished African-Americans. “Where are you getting the money for these buses?”
I like Harvey.
He’s obviously a successful businessman as well as an established comedian and (gasp) author. Dr. Boyce Watkins of YourBlackWorld.com reported Harvey was recently invited to Obama’s 50th birthday party – a function Republicans referred to as the “Hip Hop BBQ (that) Didn’t Create Jobs.”
So it’s probably safe to assume Obama has Harvey tucked away inside his back pocket.

There’s no question Harvey is a jack of all trades. However, I’d just prefer he leave politics to politicians and stick to cracking jokes.

Love of em, or hate em, Dr. West and Smiley have been advocates of African-American rights since Eve betrayed Adam. And there’s no sugarcoating the fact black unemployment has eclipsed 16 percent. Hell, somebody has to speak out in defense of the meager. My goodness. At least Dr. West and Smiley have accepted the job.
Obama has a party
Celebrities came out to kick it with President Barack Obama on his 50th birthday
While Harvey is capable of wiping his fanny with twenty dollar bills, legions of blacks are simmering in poverty. See, as African-Americans, we must remain cognizant of the fact Obama is a rich, biracial, Harvard grad surrounded by a wealthy fraternity of Ivy-Leaguers in Congress.
He’s not Tyrone on 5th Street.

Obama doesn’t share the typical experiences that have become synonymous with urban despair. So it’s probably not fair to expect him to react in that manner. I mentioned “biracial” because Whites have as much claim to Obama’s ethnicity as Black folks.

During his radio rant, Harvey stated something very interesting in regards to African-American unemployment. He said Obama is not the black people’s president, he’s America’s president; which is true.
Obama is indeed America’s president.

However, when one race is disproportionately screwed with an unemployment rate nearly double the national number, it’s certainly the president’s job to investigate.  The race of people, quite frankly, doesn’t matter. If Whites or Hispanics were demonized with a 16 percent jobless rate, the same argument would apply.
Keep in mind, Obama was the first Democratic President since Harry S. Truman to refrain from mentioning the poor during his State of the Union Address. The assumption that Obama considers the black unemployment problem impertinent shouldn’t excuse him from the duty of rendering a reasonable explanation as to why a large segment of his country remains inflicted with double suffering.
98% of Negro voters helped put the man in office.

That same 98 percent, and the USA in mass, deserves an immediate answer.

Rick Perry hates blacks?

Rick Perry
REPORTS CLAIM RICK PERRY (R) USED RACIAL SLUR ON HUNTING TRIP. By Laura Bassett
WASHINGTON – Following a Washington Post report that Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry’s family hunting camp in Texas once had the word “Niggerhead” painted on a large rock at its entrance, the Perry campaign is scrambling to control the damage.

Perry insists that his father painted over the offensive word on the Fourth of July weekend of 1983 or 1984, as soon as his family began leasing the property, and his campaign communications director Ray Sullivan pointed out in a statement that Perry’s family never actually owned the West Texas property.

“A number of claims made in the story are incorrect, inconsistent and anonymous, including the implication that Rick Perry brought groups to the lease when the word on the rock was still visible,” he said. “The one consistent fact in the story is that the word on a rock was painted over and obscured many years ago.”

Sullivan’s statement conflicts with some of the witnesses’ accounts in the Washington Post story, which allege that the racial slur was still visible throughout the ’80s and “as recently as this summer.”

Fellow Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, who is now neck and neck with Perry, according to a recent Fox News poll, took the opportunity on Sunday to call Perry “insensitive” for his handling of the situation.

“There isn’t a more vile, negative word than the ‘n word,’ and for him to leave it there as long as they did is just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country,” he said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”
