Adam Lambert Allegedly Attacks The Paparazzi

Adam Lambert, former American Idol winner, was accused of attacking the paparazzi. This all took place on Miami Beach.

The victim contacted the Miami Beach Police Department and filed a report. Pictures of the incident were captured and released on the web. Lambert has been accused of misdemeanor battery.

Lambert reportedly grabbed the paparazzi’s backpack and wrestled with the photographer and forced him to the ground. The guy’s backpack was said to have held the camera that perhaps Lambert was trying to ruin or take possession of.

However, a careful look of the pictures taken in the incident show that the camera man had the camera in his hand and not his bag. Hmm, perhaps the photog was telling a bit of a fib.

No word on whether charges will be filed. That decision will up to the State Attorney’s office. If they decide to, Lambert could potentially spend up to one year in the slammer and he would be forced to pay $1000 in fines.

Syria to Get Advanced Anti-Ship Missiles from Russia

Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov has announced that his country will sell advanced anti-ship cruise missiles to Syria, as agreed in a 2007 contract. Israel has expressed concern that the deal will endanger Israeli ships in the Mediterranean. The United States had also objected to the deal.

The missiles that will be sold to Damascus are P-800 Yakhont supersonic cruise missiles. They can carry a warhead weighing up to 200 kilograms, have a range of 300 kilometers, and are difficult to detect due to their ability to cruise near the water's surface.

John Gotti’s Confidante Avoids Prison Term

Garment businessman Lewis Kasman, the late mobster John Gotti’s confidante and self-proclaimed “adopted son” and FBI mole avoided getting a prison sentence Thursday for lying to the FBI and other crimes, Long Island’s Newsday reported.

U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis in Brooklyn on Thursday spared Kasman, 53, a prison sentence for obstruction of justice, lying to the FBI, fraud and racketeering, Newsday reported, saying he committed some of the crimes while he was cooperating with the FBI. He was sentenced to time served and given three years probation.

The paper said the judge acknowledged that Kasman’s cooperation was a big help in battling the Gambino crime family that Gotti headed up.

“At great risk to himself [Kasman] leveraged the substantial trust that he had built within the Gambino family to provide the government with valuable information,” said Garaufis, according to the paper.

“I did enjoy running with the bad guys at that point in my life,” Kasman told Garaufis, the paper reported. “It is a hard lesson learning to live a clean life.”

FBI Advises Seattle Cartoonist to Go into Hiding

By now one thing we’ve learned in this post-9/11 world of our is that cartoons aren’t always a laughing matter.

The FBI has reportedly advised Seattle-based cartoonist Molly Norris to go into hiding as a result of a fatwa or death sentence that has been issued.  The fatwa was issued after she drew a cartoon this summer:  “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day”,  the Seattle P-I website reported. The news site said the movement became popular on Facebook.

The P-I reported that Seattle Weekly editor-in-chief Mark D. Fefer wrote in Wednesday’s issue that  Norris’ comic would no longer appear in the paper.

He noted that the cartoonist involves “moving, changing her name, and essentially wiping away her identity.”  The FBI did not comment, the P-I reported.

Imran Farooq Killing, Karachi Braces Another Round of Bloodshed

The assassination of Dr. Imran Farooq may have happened in the British capital of London, the retaliation would be felt in the Karachi city of Pakistan. As the MQM and ANP and PPP are indulged in target killing of each other in Karachi, this new twist in the bloody tale is going to cost Karachi numerous lives and damage to property. The loss to the economy of country is uncountable.

Already, in Karachi city, the public transport has vanished from the roads and people who are returning from half way as they were going to their offices and  businesses. Shops and businesses are closed and all markets are silent. Schools and colleges have called it a day even before their proper start, and kids are returning to their homes. The petrol pumps and the CNG stations have been closed down.

Though the coordination committee of MQM has called for peace and restraint, but already many parts of the city are hearing firing, and things are turning dark. The city government and the provincial government must at once call the rangers in the city and deploy them in all the chowrangis and they must not wait for some corpses to come to wake them up.

Karachi is an unfortunate city.

Lawmakers Debate Action On Stem Cell Research, Public Health Bills

Sen. Arlen Specter said at a Senate hearing Thursday that Congress should move on allowing the government to fund human embryonic stem cell research "to avoid giving a final say on the issue to a conservative Supreme Court," The Associated Press reports. At the hearing, "scientists also expressed concern about recent court rulings that have disrupted funding for embryonic stem cell research, seen as offering promising potential for treating Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, and numerous other debilitating illnesses." Specter has battled Hodgkin's disease. Sen. Tom Harkin, chairman of the Senate Appropriations health subcommittee, issued his support for such a move. 

 

"The National Institutes of Health has already spent more than $500 million on this research, proceeding with federal funding since President George W. Bush in 2001 allowed restricted federal assistance. But last month U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth issued a preliminary injunction in which he stated that the research violated a 1996 law banning the use of taxpayer money to derive stem cells from embryos. An appeals court has since temporarily stayed that order until it can hear full arguments in the coming weeks" (Abrams, 9/16).

The Hill's Healthwatch Blog: In the meantime, a slate of public health bills passed a House health subcommittee Thursday. "All but one, requiring the Department of Health and Human Services to set up voluntary data collection on the sexual orientation and gender identity of people who apply for [Department of Health and Human Services] services or respond to its surveys, garnered unanimous bipartisan support. … Republicans on the panel all voted against the bill, which cleared markup on a 12-10 party-line vote. In a press statement sent after the vote, Republicans called the measure 'grossly intrusive'" (Pecquet, 9/16).

Houston Chronicle: Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, is asking Congress to "boost federal spending to combat cancers that afflict thousands of America's children each year. McCaul … urged Congress to take action during a Childhood Cancer Summit convened on Capitol Hill to increase lawmakers' awareness about the need for more steps to fight the disease. … McCaul and [Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Joe] Sestak already have collaborated to secure $4 million for childhood cancer research in the current federal budget." The pair plans to provide legislation to give "drug companies priority review for approval of new drugs targeting childhood cancers, and provide grants to train primary care physicians to better identify side effects of anti-cancer medications in children as well as to spot any signs of recurrence of the disease" (Powell, 9/16).

Shelley Malil Found Guilty of Attempted Murder

Looks like Shelley Malil’s showbiz days are definitely over for good. The “40 Year Old Virgin” actor was convicted of attempted murder yesterday for the stabbing of girlfriend Kendra Beebe, the mother of two children.

He stabbed her 23 times in 2008, but says that it was not intentional. He claims that he went to her home and found her with another man, who he believed was going to cause some sort of harm to him, so he pulled out the knife and started stabbing. I guess the big question is why he would show up at his girlfriend’s house with a knife in the first place.


Prosecutors in the case argued that Malil planned the attack and waited for Kendra to “come home in the dark.” She wound up with a collapsed lung and her chin mutilated.

Malil is now awaiting sentencing for the case, and could wind up in prison anywhere from 16 years to life.

Floyd Mayweather faces felony charges

Floyd Mayweather has had a rough go of it lately. You may recall a few weeks ago that Mayweather went on Ustream and verbally attacked boxer Manny Pacquiao with such venom as “a midget who should cook him some rice”. Pretty boy Floyd later apologized for the rant but the damage had already been done.


But now his words and more importantly, his actions have landed him a pot of scalding water. A criminal complaint was filed yesterday in Las Vegas charing Mayweather with two felony coercion, one felony robbery, one misdemeanor domestic battery and three misdemeanor harassment charges. Although it’s highly unlikely he will be found guilty on all charges, the maximum sentence would for all 8 counts is 34 years.

Suffice to say at a robust 67 years old, we probably won’t see that Mayweather-Pacquiao fight we’ve all been waiting for.

A Cry for Sanity!

Hey there! It’s election season, which means a few things. First, and most importantly, it means you need to register yourself to vote. Register your friends to vote. Family. Children. Pets. JK! (Unless you have a human pet. In which case, weird…and definitely illegal.)

Secondly, it means you best get used to some negativity on your TV screens. In times like these, the news LOVES to cover the looneys (broken up by negative campaign ads where candidates accuse one another of hating happiness, fearing ducks and eating too much sushi). Far, far left and far, far right get all the press during these months. Why’s that, you ask? Cause they’re more fun. Like a traffic accident between a clown car and “The Expendables”, it’s a bloodbath that has everyone tuning in.


But not me. Election season is a time to watch Netflix and On Demand. I personally don’t need the negativity in my life. I don’t need my country to be painted as a black and white nation of hatred and disrespect. The black and white are the fringe groups. Truth is, most of us live in the grey area (let’s just say some us prefer orange juice with our breakfast).

Most of us want people to be treated equally. For our fellow citizen to have a life full of success, not struggle. For happiness to be the unifying theme in our communities. Most of us are those folks in the middle, those that aren’t afraid of each other. That stand up for what’s right and will offer a hand up. Regardless of what the media tells us, I know this to be true, because I see it on a daily basis.

And someone agrees. Someone famous. Someone that just might get all those grey folks to rise up and make themselves known. And, by having a potentially massive rally so close to an election, might even inspire those grey folks to get thee to a polling place.

Whether or not you plan on attending the “Rally to Restore Sanity” (paired with Stephen Colbert’s “Rally to Keep Fear Alive”) on October 30th is up to you. But getting your grey self to the polls on November 2nd is one event that you can’t afford to miss.

Countdown Back To The Big House: Federal Judge Wants To Holla At T.I. About His Three Probation Violations

As you might have guessed by now, T.I.’s recent marital pill-poppin’ adventure is probably going to land him back behind bars. Turns out his visit to the L.A. County jail violated his probation three times.
And a federal judge in Atlanta wants to talk to him about it… at some point.

U.S. District Judge Charles Pannel Jr. signed the summons for T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris. The same judge sentenced Harris for firearms violations.
The order lists three possible violations of his bond: possession of ecstasy on Sept. 1, testing positive for opiates on Sept. 2 and associating on Sept. 1 with Cortez Thomas, a convicted felon.
Pannell did not set a date for the hearing.

Good job, Clifford.
Then again, this IS T.I.: maybe this is all promotion for his next album. We saw how well he parlayed being a felon into sales for Paper Trail. And he WAS in studio the night he got popped in Hollyweird.

Sharron Angle Pulls Ahead Of Harry Reid In Nevada

As the nation’s attention is focused on Christine O’Donnell’s upset of Mike Castle in Delaware, and her chances of winning in November, it’s worth noting that another insurgent candidate in Nevada seems to be gaining momentum.
At least according to one poll, anyway:

Most striking is how closely fought the Nevada Senate race remains. The poll in that race, which pits the most powerful Democrat in the Senate against former state assembly member Angle — shows that Angle is capturing 42% of likely voters polled to Reid’s 41%, a statistical dead heat. Angle’s standing against Reid comes despite the fact that there’s an official Tea Party candidate on the ballot who might be expected to siphon away votes from her. But Scott Ashjian is backed by only 5% of those polled.

There is a striking gender difference among those polled in Nevada. Women go for Reid by a 51-33 margin, while men back Angle, 49-32. With both parties’ bases mobilized and overwhelmingly backing their nominee, the critical ground will be fought over independent swing voters. Angle wins here, collecting 40% compared to Reid’s 33%. Among self-described moderates, Reid holds sway, 57-23, while Angle has a big margin among conservatives, 72-13. Reid wins among those who attended college (44-40) as well as those making less than $50,000 a year (45-31). But Angle prevails among those with no college experience (44-37). They’re evenly divided among voters making more than $50,000.

Ed Morrissey notes a significant split in the polling:
Registered voters: Reid 42, Angle 34

Likely voters: Angle 42, Reid 41

There are two take-aways from those numbers, both positive for Angle.

First, it seems as though Angle supporters are much more motivated to turn out at the polls to vote. Second, the fact that Harry Reid is polling at just 40% despite being his party’s Senate Majority Leader, involved in politics for 40 years in Nevada and campaigning against a relatively unknown and inexperienced candidate means he’s in serious trouble.

We were told by the media, the liberals and the establishment Republicans that Angle was a weak candidate who couldn’t be Reid. Clearly, she can win. She’s no shoo-in, but she’s giving him a run for his money

IHOP sues IHOP

The International House of Prayer is a church in Kansas City which hosts a 24 hours per day, seven days per week prayer service. They have a decidedly dominionist bent and are affiliated with some of the more radical (and definitely anti-gay) elements of conservative Christianity including Lou Engle (who appears to implicitly support Uganda’s Kill the Gays bill), Michael Brown, the Brownsville Revival, and the Kansas City Prophets movement.

The church frequently goes by the acronym IHOP (their website is www.ihop.org), but maybe not for much longer; it seems the pancake chain isn’t amused. (CNN)

IHOP has filed a lawsuit against a church group called the International House of Prayer claiming that the group is illegally using the pancake house’s famous acronym.
The legal flap started earlier this month when the International House of Pancakes filed the lawsuit in a federal court in California.

The Kansas City, Missouri-based church group “selected and adopted the International House of Prayer name, knowing it would be abbreviated IHOP. IHOP-KC intended to misappropriate the fame and notoriety of the household name IHOP to help promote and make recognizable their religious organization,” the lawsuit says.

Lawyers from the pancake restaurant say the odds are stacked against the church group and provided the court with pages and pages of documentation of websites, newsletters and signs on buildings where the prayer group allegedly used the IHOP acronym.

New York - Gov. Paterson: It Would Be "Dangerous" To Have Gov. Paladino

New York - Gov. Paterson stepped up his criticism of Republican Carl Paladino this morning, saying it would be “dangerous” to have such a divisive figure in the governor’s office.

“He doesn’t have any policies, he has no idea how he would change things and almost one third of his statements turn out being interpreted as being offensive,” Paterson said during an interview this morning with the Daily News’ Errol Louis on WWRL 1600.

Paterson said he was initially willing to give the bomb-throwing Paladino the benefit of the doubt when he said some of his more controversial comments - especially remarks about placing poor people in unused prisons - had been taken out of context.

But then, according to Paterson, “he restates it.”

“So now I’ve come to the conclusion that this is deliberate,” Paterson said. “That he is deliberately trying to provoke people for his own political gain. And my point is, that somebody that does that is not fit to be in the executive branch of the state of New York.”

Paterson later added: “When you repeat it , and I now I know it’s deliberate I can conclude in no other way that this is a person that would be dangerous to have in leadership.”

Paladino, according to Paterson, has not shared any of his policies about how he would cut spending or taxes. Instead, according to the governor, he only knows how to be divisive.

“The worst thing you can ever have is a public that’s upset, that’s dispirited and confused with no leadership,” Paterson said. “Leadership is about bringing people together.”

Paterson was also critical of the Tea Party movement that helped propel Paladino.

“I’m not blaming the Tea Party here, but I’m just saying it seems rather unfocused,” Paterson said. “I never get exactly what it is that the people who are angry want to do about it, other than be angry, which always leads to the castigation of other people.”

The Health Care Battle...decades old

Former President Jimmy Carter is not endearing himself to Kennedy-ites these days. He said that if Senator Edward M. Kennedy hadn't blocked a health plan that he had proposed decades ago, Americans could have had comprehensive health care coverage.

In an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" to be aired Sunday, Carter said, "The fact is that we would have had comprehensive health care now, had it not been for Ted Kennedy's deliberately blocking the legislation that I proposed. It was his fault. Ted Kennedy killed the bill." He added, "He did not want to see me have a major success in that realm of life."

Carter cast his Democratic rival as spiteful.

Ooo. Ouch.

In his latest book, "White House Diary" Carter says: "Kennedy continuing his irresponsible and abusive attitude, immediately condemning our health plan. He couldn't get five votes for his plan."

In his 2009 memoir, "True Compass," Kennedy blamed Carter for dragging his feet on health care and wrote that Carter viewed his health care efforts as a platform to challenge his presidency.

Kennedy and Carter had competing health care reform plans while Carter was president. Kennedy favored a more comprehensive approach that would have insured all Americans against health care costs regardless of age or income. Carter backed a more moderate proposal that would have been phased in over several years.

Well, guess what? When two people fight over who's got the biggest dick, they both end up being dicks.

Woman who claimed she was attacked with acid admits it was a hoax

A little while back, a Washington woman claimed that she was attacked by someone who threw acid in her face. We didn’t cover it because, obviously, that’s not particularly funny. Now, 28-year-old Bethany Storro outed herself as a liar having made up the attack (unfortunately, she did acid up her own face, though) and police are saying her story was always full of holes. So now we’re covering it! Yay, standards of journalistic coverage.

Vancouver, WA police commander Maria Schuman told “Good Morning America”:

“Truthfully there were red flags from the beginning. Initially just the manner of the attack, when she’s talking about being splashed in the face with acid and the demarcation, the placement of injuries on her face… the thought that she was wearing sunglasses at 7:30 at night when she normally doesn’t wear sunglasses. Just small things that didn’t quite add up to a picture of normalcy.
“Things really weren’t adding up,” she said.

Storro had initially told the world that a black woman approached her saying, “Hey pretty girl,” then threw a cup of acid in her face.

But people became suspicious when Storro canceled an appearance with Oprah Winfrey and even more suspicious when several homeless people came forward to a local newspaper and said that Storro was “clearly alone when she dropped to the ground screaming.”

It’s unclear why Storro would do something like this. The obvious guess would be for attention but, in my humble opinion, a cup full of acid isn’t necessarily the greatest way to get attention. I mean Jesus, people have reality shows for making cupcakes or giving parking tickets. You don’t exactly have to reinvent the wheel here, Storro.

At least now we all know throwing acid on your face is a bad idea. No way I could have known that otherwise. Always figured that was all sunshine and rainbows. Burning, disfigured rainbows, but rainbows all the same.
