This Prayer Breakfast Speech Upstaged Barack Obama & Went Viral

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson
At Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast, Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, stepped up prior to Barack Obama’s speech and said what many of us want to say on the national stage and he did so with Obama sitting less than ten feet from him. He blasted “political correctness,” calling it a “dangerous” threat to free speech and the video has gone viral throughout the internet.

In demonstrating his disdain for politically correct speech, Carson said, “We’ve reached a point where people are actually afraid to talk about what they want to say, because somebody might be offended,” noting the example of people refraining from saying “Merry Christmas.”

“We’ve got to get over this sensitivity and it keeps people from saying what they really believe.”
He then encouraged ongoing discussions about societal issues and how education is essential in these matters.
Carson even told his own story of how he rose from poverty to success, sharing intimate details about himself, his parents and his life early on. He even demonstrated what individuals can do to demonstrate true charity to others as helping students who are seeking to advance in the academic world through his Carson Scholars Fund.

Like Henson Ong, before a group on gun violence in Connecticut, Carson also spoke about moral decay in America. He also tied it with fiscal irresponsibility and said they would both have dire consequences.

“I think particularly about ancient Rome. Very powerful — nobody could even challenge them militarily…they destroyed themselves from within,” Carson said. “Moral decay. Fiscal irresponsibility.”

Though he was serious about where we are, he also projected a positive attitude at correcting the problems.

“And one of our big problems right now…our deficit is a big problem,” he said. ”Think about it — and our national debt — $16 and a half trillion dollars.”

He then illustrated for the audience just what that would look like. We’ve done that here as well, for visual aid.

He then spoke about taxation and his statements were in direct opposition to Obama’s plans.
“What about our taxation system — so complex there is no one that can possibly comply with every jot and tittle,” he said. ”When I pick up my Bible, you know what I see — I see the fairest individual in the universe — God — and he’s given us a system. It’s called tithe.”
He used this to promote the idea of a flat tax, which I’m all in favor of.

He also took time to speak about health care, which obviously was in direct opposition to Obamacare as he blasted the notion of sending money to the large Federal bureaucratic monster. He advocated for health savings accounts, which I also support.

I thank God for Dr. Carson’s courage and communication skills, especially when it would be so easy to cave on the national stage. This is definitely a one of a kind speech and though Barack Obama was sitting right there and appearing to listen intently, I’m curious if he actually heard a word that was said or if he even cared. I know it has been my prayer that God would turn the heart of Barack Obama and those in Congress in repentance from their sinful policies and that He would give them wisdom regarding how to govern properly. May He so grant it.

Media Mayor Cory Booker Bombs in Home Town of Newark

                                                                                By Linn Washington, Jr.

Cory Booker, the charismatic Democratic mayor of Newark, NJ currently considering a campaign for the U.S. Senate, enjoys extraordinary media exposure -- exposure that exceeds that of many top-tier entertainers and professional athletes. However, that fawning media coverage from CNN to Vogue Magazine of this mayor rarely reports facts like the increasing ire among Newark residents over Booker’s practices and the right-wing political roots of this politician who is generally portrayed as possessing solid center-left credentials.

Those right-wing roots, for example, provide an under-examined explanation for Booker's lashing out at President Obama last May after a campaigning Obama criticized economic deprivations caused by hedge fund manipulations when he took Mitt Romney to task for the then GOP candidate’s tenure as head of venture capital firm Bain Capital.
Journalist Glen Ford has reported extensively on Booker’s conservative connections for over a decade, beginning with Booker’s September 2000 New York City address at the Manhattan Institute, one of America’s leading right-wing think tanks.
“It’s amazing that most people don’t see this background,” Ford said.

“You must understand that the Manhattan Institute is not some eclectic entity,” Black Agenda Report co-founder Ford said. “This is what makes Cory Booker different from other right-wing Democrats. He comes from the bosom of the right-wing…he started there.”

Ford’s coverage includes Booker’s alignment with the conservative school voucher movement that seeks to siphon government funding from public schools into corporate and religious coffers – a defunding movement that has a profound detrimental impact on large numbers of minority students and minority professionals in public schools.
Favorable media coverage of Booker explains why most people across New Jersey and nationwide view him as progressive. That coverage portrays a mayor who saved a neighbor from a burning building, sustaining second-degree burns during that rescue. It focuses on him for raising more than $250-million in donations for projects in his beleaguered city.

“Most people in Trenton and South Jersey look at Booker as a great mayor because they see him on CNN and other television shows all the time,” Trenton, NJ community activist Daryl Brooks said. “But in inner-city areas of Newark, residents don’t view Booker as a great leader. There is a feeling that he is more interested in his national and international image than in doing something for poor people.”

A December 2012 New York Times article contained rare mainstream media criticism of Booker, citing growing complaints in Newark that Booker is “a better marketer than mayor.”...

Jesse Jackson Jr. signs plea deal in federal investigation

It’s been nearly three months since Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned from Congress, but now NBC News confirms that Jackson has signed papers in a plea deal within the past several days.

Jackson’s case is being handled by the US Attorney’s office in Washington DC. While no public announcement is expected today, those with knowledge of the investigation believe the loose ends now deal with Jackson’s wife, former Alderman Sandi Jackson, and whether or not she is ultimately charged.

Under the terms of the deal Jackson signed, he pleads guilty and his fate – as to jail time – would be in the hands of a federal judge, not yet assigned.
