CHICAGO — At least two people were dead and 50 hurt when two school
buses collided with a truck and sports utility vehicle on a Missouri
highway Thursday, media reported.
The buses were full of eighth
grade students belonging to a school band on their way to the Six Flags
amusement park, CNN reported.
The shocking images captured by
news crew helicopters showed one of the buses propped up on top of the
tractor-trailer, the SUV crushed underneath.
White foam covered the road, presumably used by rescue crews to prevent a fire.
"It's a horrible situation, it really is," Jordan Durand, a spokesman with the Missouri Department of Transportation, told CNN.
"We're hoping that the injuries don't become fatalities later on as the day continues."
Ashley
Wiehle from the Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St Louis told
media that 36 of the children were being taken to hospital, but were in
good condition and were walking.
